I got a flat (rear passenger side) late last night in the pouring rain. It certainly was not the best time or conditions for changing a flat but I managed. UNFORTUNATELY in my rush to get home and out of the rain I put the spare on the rear tire without consulting the manual. I drove about 2 miles before I reached home at about 35 - 40 MPH. Do you experts out there think I did significant damage to the rear differencial?

I wanted to kick myself after I read the manual this morning and discovered I had to put the front on the rear and the spare on the front!

 

You should be ok. S02's are hard to find in the NYC area. I ordered from tire rack On Monday afternoon and got them by Weds. morning. The Bridgestone dealer told me s02's for the s2000 are on backordered for this area. Call Jim at Tire rack!

 

No problem, Matt! 2 miles at 30-40 mph isn't gonna harm anything. I spoke to a guy at Sac2k Days last weekend who did the same thing. His differential is fine. Glad you got home safely. And what's the deal with rain in June? You east coast folks seem to have the worst weather this year.

 

I think you'll be OK. It wasn't very far nor was the speed excessive. However, (yeah, there's always a BUT), when you get some slushy snow next winter where you live, that's when you'll find out for sure.

 

hey matt, i have a rear so2 that was only 2 weeks old when i got a screw stuck in it. hundred bucks if you want it. i didn't get it fixed i just got a brand new tire instead.

 

There is a nail in the tread. Do you guys think I can just get it plugged? I have plugged many other tires without a problem but I also never had a racing tire or an S2K.

I only have 6000 Miles on the tires so I dont want to waste extra money on a new 1 if I dont have to.

 

I am sitting in Seattle peering out the window in 95 degree weather... Everytime I am back east for work people always ask me how I deal with all the rain here... I don't get it. Wait... what the hell am I doing inside?!

It sounds like your diff is fine. If you do run into any issues with it, please! find this thread and give us an update.
