I loved the Miata I used to own, but my wife fell for our old del Sol. So the early stories about the SSM and S2000 got our attention. Now we own a car that we both like

i first saw the s2k in a car magazine in June of 99 at a magazine stand in San Francisco Airport [was waiting to pick up a friend]. love at first sight. started shopping around for it in feb of 00, and started getting pissed off with various Honda dealers in the Bay Area [ridiculous markups even when i offered to wait several months]. so i switched to the e46M3. then BMW started their endless delays, decided to go with an Audi S4, and got ticked off by the 3 Audi dealers around here, went back to waiting for the M3. then came full circle when i finally found the stook for MSRP, and bimmer was getting delayed yet again. bought it 12/27/00 and don't regret giving up the M3 for it....

Totally obsessed. Still am. Can't drive it now because of the weather. It's worse than ever. I have three models on my desk at work.

I had followed every single teeny tiny bit of information on the Stook, and I remember the spy photos...to know that it was actually going to be was the biggest high. I MADE the list at our Honda dealership, with the dealers name being second only to mine...hehe. When the car arrived I wasn't financially secure enough to own one, so I had to wait over a year...boy, am I glad I did. Reading this board you will see that the Stook had its share of growing pains, but I am happy to say that my 01' silver has no problems at all. I never let myself belive it was real, even driving it off the lot I didn't believe it. I drove down a few streets and pulled over...it took a bit to be real to me. I have never been so secure in a purchase in my life. When my insurance came in $50.00 a month more than previously quoted, I didn't bat an eye. This car is truly something special, and so is this board. Consider yourself lucky, you are about to make the best automobile purchase choice you will, and you have a great bunch of fellas to help you iron out the wrinkles and enhance your experience.

Thank you S2KGUY. I do very much like the people on this board. They seem to have a lot more class than the people on some of the other S2K boards. I am very sure of this purchase. My wife wanted me to wait at first, but then she realized that we had nothing to fear in purchasing this car. Besides, she will be the hottest Red Head to ever drive a Yellow S2000! She likes that
I am definetly going to turn to ya'll to get some advice, and hear the do's and don'ts that you guys have come to find with this car.

I first discovered the car as the SSM in '95. Loved the fact that it was a Honda, but it was a prototype, so "Yawn!!".

In late '98, my brother-in-law told me that he read in Popular Mechanics that Honda was taking the SSM prototype into production as the S2000. After many hours of research and continuous drooling, I started calling around (17 dealers, in all) and finally found a dealer in N. New Hampshire willing to deliver at MSRP during the first week of availability.

I was lucky to be able to drive the car (Silver/Red - One of the best colors for the car!) at another dealership on 9/22/99. I had to wait for PDI to be completed.

I could have owned it for $38.5 with all options including pin stripes. The pin stripes were not negotiable. Also, all options had to be installed, I did not want any of the body kits, and I could not have them in shipping boxes! No thank you. I walked.

Another dealership who was holding my deposit called the next day and offered me the car, (Red/Black - One of the best colors for the car!) without options, for $45K. I was second, then third on the list. This is the third day of availability! No Suckers on this list! No problem with this decision... "not interested in being raped at this point in time", F-U! See Ya!

I was feeling pretty screwed at this point. I just knew that my deposit, at my very last dealership contact, MSRP contract or not, was going to ream me for market price. I was already considering legal action.

Two days later, I got "the call" and my car was in (Black/Black - The absolute BEST color for this car!).

After one sleepless night, and three hours of driving, I took delivery. Black is absolutely the very best color for this car! (A pain in the ass to keep clean, but still the best!)

Mission accomplished!

I am still in love with this car even after almost 1.5 years of ownership. I cannot imagine losing the excitement of driving it! It will never become boring.

It is also a very nice looking garage ornament to have during those long New England Winters.

It is truly a work of art and I can hardly wait until I can drive it once again!

Obsessed? Nah. I put down a deposit in August. Roxanne is due in February. I have Ricks console cover, shift boot, knob sock, aeroscreen, Muz mat, MG 3-piece floor mats, visor stickers, S2000 computer wallpaper at work, home and laptop, S2000 screen saver on the same computers, Maistro 1:18 scale silver S2000 on my desk, 1st copy of Roadsters Mag carefully preserved and my posts are over 400. Obsessed? I DON'T THINK SO! Can I borrow $200 for a set of Rick signature headrests?

Have you noticed that the Engine Start button is on the wrong side in the LHD Maisto 1:18 models? They copied the RHD version over. Everything else is almost perfect.
