Thumbs down Defect Side brake!

I got my "brand new" S about a month ago and today some ****ed up shit happened... I parked my car on the road infront of my friends house and put my side brake on. The road was at a slight hill (maybe 10 degree angle), so I didn't put my 1st gear in. I called my friend, He opened the door and I went upstairs to his room. I look outside the window and my car was fine. We were talking and for about 10-15 min. and his neighbor rings his door bell and tell us that my car had roll down the street and hit his tree on his front yard. My back bumper is crushed, trunk is bent and my taillight is broke. It's good thing that my car didn't hurt anyone, but I'm really confused about why this happened. It didn't move at all when I first got out the car, so my car was parked for about at least 30-45 sec. Does anyone have similar problems???

This has been talked about over and over again. There's a very good reason that the owners manual tells you to put the car in gear EVERY time you park it.

Good luck getting it fixed.

so whats the point of the side brake? is it their for fashion?? I dont see the point in a side brake if it cant hold on its own. My friend that I visited today has a type R and his side brake works perfect. He tested it out with his car at the exact point where my car was and his car was fine, even at the first click of the side brake and the car stood on its own.

First of all, it is not called a "side" brake. It's not even really called a "park" brake. It is called an EMERGENCY brake. People use use it whenever they park but it is a precaution to augment parking it IN GEAR! It is NOT meant to be used solely to hold the car when parked. As the brakes cool, they contract, thus losing some pressure the brake pads may have had on the rotor.

I just finished reading the manual. It says NOTHING about always putting it in gear when parked. Only says to do it on a STEEP hill. This is the 2005 manual by the way.

So nobody thinks its strange that a car that went hmmmm maybe 5-7 miles on a casual drive to a friends house(implying no heavy braking), parked on the side at a 10 degree angle(which is like nothing) with the E brake up and it slipping down like a minute later??

I know my friend drives his R pretty rough and he NEVER had any of these problems, he said that the E brake always held on its own no matter what the situation is. Isn't that how an E brake is supposed to act? Am I asking too much from an E brake?

The pressure from the pad will keep the rotor from cooling unevenly and could cause warping in the rotor.
Here we go again

Apparently, the hill you parked on was steep enough to cause your car to roll downward.

There is nothing wrong with your parking brake, if you had pulled on it tight enough, your car would NOT have rolled downward.

Like xviper said, the parking brake compliment's the compression of the engine to prevent the car from rolling and vise versa, the compression of the engine compliment's the parking brake.

I don't think a 10 degree incline is "nothing". A 3000 pound object that can roll when parked on any incline is not to be taken for granted.

This hill is long and boring. No big dive, just a long boring hill. I parked the car at the top of the hill where it is the most even. I'm trying to say that if an E brake can't support its car(its home and one and only place it will ever be) on this pos of a hill, then something is obviously wrong with it.

I'm surprised to see that none of you guys really care about this, cause it seems like an issue that calls attention.
