dealer oil change rant
i had to have the state inspection done on my s2000. so while i was at the dealer getting that done i figured i would just have the car serviced since the service indicator was on. $98.00 just for an oil and filter change? that didn't include the state inspection. my acura at the dealer didn't cost that much. i was told that the next service is a biggie; oil and filter, air and cabin filters, tranny fluid and diff fluid. guess what that came out too? $400.00!!!! and to top it off, they "adjusted" my tire pressures to 32 psi all around! while the tires were hot! i just adjusted those to a true cold psi of 32 the other morning. now i have do to it again.
needless to say, i'm going to northern tool and buying an oil/fluid extractor and doing the next service in my garage. even after buying that and all the filters, and some gc oil i will save almost $300.00.
had to vent.

I always take my S to the dealership - but I changed dealerships when some 19 y/o kid that worked there took my car for a joy ride while I waiting for them to do an oil change. Came back with a big smile on his face. The Service Manager told me they do that to check for leaks.... BS, no one ever looked under the car when it was back. Phillipsburg-Easton Honda....beware.

gc (german castrol) oil is the european castrol. it comes highly rated by some on this site and is easy to get, like mobil 1.
there was no "leak check" done on my car, as i could see the all the exits (lol) and they were pretty courteous. but i just prefer to do my own regular service and save the money for a night out instead.
i'm sure i will go back for any big repairs, and definitely for and warranty work.

I use Royal Purple and 5 liters of that is 75.00 so $100.00 to me really isn't that bad.
I was quoted $280 from the dealership for the big maintenance and ended up getting it done elsewhere for 160.

Amsoil or Mobil 1 is the better choice.
