Default Dealer Not Covering Axle Nut TSB...

my car has 75k on it, but the car has 100k power train warranty (honda certified). They are telling me that the axle nut TSB is $400 and not covered under warranty. Any advice?

im sure i could search, but they are going to call back soon and want to know what i could possibly say.

I thought the TSB was to torque the nut. Shouldn't take more than 1/2 an hour.

well they have to replace the nut (few bucks), remove it, "clean the debris", "regrease", and torque it. It seems like BS to me too. Really because it is a design flaw. Weather it was due to galvanic corrosion or whatever, it shouldn't happen. The service writer I deal with has always been good to me and helped me out, so I dont think its all his doing. He is calling Honda on my behalf so we'll see. All that said, if I say no thanks I am still in the $96 diag cost. I may as well have them do it, and I probably just will either way. I cant be without my car and I dont have the space or tools to do the work...

sucks.

WOW!! That price seems way out of line. It takes about 5minutes to do but since you dont have the tools you will need to ask around. Just so you are aware the dealer's are not required to perform TSB's, A tsb does not affect safety or emmissions so it is not considered a recall therefore they are not required to fix it. I would hop to your local community and ask for someone to help. All it takes is a screwdriver to remove your center cap, some lube, socket and a torque wrench. Remove the center cap, remove the axle nut and lube the back side. Put it back on at 220 ft/lbs. Install center cap and your done.

my torque wrench only goes to 150 ft-lbs. I know its easy. Im just hoping they know that to and will just do the right thing and cover it since i bought the car there and it is under a warranty.

Keep in mind a powertrain coverage does not cover axle nuts. I do wish you the best of luck and hope they will cover it for you, if you are near St. Louis I would be more than happy to help you out.

yeah, they didnt cover it and i told them to go ahead and do it. It pains me to spend all that money for a dumb job, but they claim they have to do all this stuff like pull the axle out and all that.

Right now i work 60 hours a week and am in grad school so i have more money than time. Dont really have the time to do this during the weekend with pending exams. Oh well.

Thanks for the help anyway.

to clarify it is $100 for diag and then $300 for the work. Oh well...guess what they say about a fool and his money is true

Ouch..I would have taken it to a private mechanic and just said Do it.

I had a mechanic just recently do the CV joint swap AND had him do the axle nuts while he had it apart and it cost me $92 for everything.
