DC ceramic coated header

First of all, there is a reason the DC header costs 1/4 of what the J's racing header costs. In life, especially when it comes to car parts, you get what you pay for. This header is crap. I've never seen a quality made DC header. I've also never seen a header made by them that gets nearly as much power as a quality JDM brand header. My friend has an Integra type-r with a DC header that he bought 6 months ago. He gained a few hp midrange, that's about it. A few weeks ago, his car sounded slightly different. When we looked under the hood, there was a hole in one of the welds on the header. Any weld that cracks in 6 months of normal daily driving is a sh!t weld. They are mediocre in design and poor in materials and workmanship. On an S2000, the HARDEST place to gain power is the header. The stock header looks like most aftermarket ones. If you want cheap power, this is NOT the car for you. Expect to pay close to $100 per horsepower if you stay NA. About the only exception is a stroker kit or ITB's, which require a large investment and professional tuning. I agree with all the others who say STAY AWAY from a DC header.

about the crack. . . so you are saying that the welds are shit based on one failed product? i hardly see that as a reason to say its crap. shit happens. so a full race turbo manifold that cracks after driving for awhile makes it crap? i don't think so. i had this header on my car for about 20,000 miles and i had no problems with it what so ever! and i beat the living hell out of the car, daily driving and all. who knows what your "normal" daily driving means. like i said i daily drive my car and i beat the hell out of it. i would like to hear from one "tuner car" driver that doesn't smash the gas every once in awhile.
you say in only gained a few hp in the midrange? is this from your butt dyno or a real one? because until i see a dyno sheet i call bs. i am not saying this header is going to outperform a berks or j's racing because that would simply be ludacris. all i am saying is that all these people bash it and don't have anything to back it up. hopefully someone takes me up on my offer so we can get to the bottom of this.

Lookit, this site allows people the freedom to express their opinions. Anybody who wants to can buy whatever they want regardless of what is stated here. Nobody using this forum is obligated to back up their statements with Dynos or any other documentation.
However, if it makes anybody feel better, I'm more than happy to state that DC headers are an excellent product and a must have for anybody who owns the Honda S2000.

i agree with you on allowing to express opinions, but is someone supposed to make a purchase based on opinions and not fact? i just hate when people say a product is crap with nothing to back it up. i usually don't say anything when someone bashes a product, but i have seen the dc header bashing pop up time and time again. i never said they are obligated to do anything. i am not demanding a dyno sheet. i am really just curious as to why this kind of stuff continues.

I don't think DC headers are nearly as bad as most people on this (and other) web sites say. It's been kind of an "in" thing to slam them for awhile now.
I also don't think DC headers are nearly as good as some dealers on line (and DC themselves) tries to make them sound.
They are an OK header for the money. They do have decent merges and, unlike the factory header, equal length runners. And the ceramic ones look pretty good imho. Also there are benefits to containing the exhaust's thermal energy beyond keeping the engine bay a little cooler. At least in theory, the hotter exhaust will generate higher velocities which help exhaust scavaging.

As for the cracks in the welds. I have had mine on for around a year and no cracks for me yet. With all mass produced products there will almost always be a few that don't hold up.

i found one in the fs section this week and i got it for a super good price. i figured i would try it out and see what i think to see if i can help settle it a little. Im going to put it on when i get it with no expectations and see how it feels and maybe if there is a dyno day comin up ill dyno it too.

GUYS i just looked at import tuner's power pages. they tested an intake, header, and exhaust on a 2001 S2000. they dynoed each mod separately, and the DC CERAMIC COATED HEADER didn't lose power anywhere, actually gained 3rwhp throughout most of the powerband. i forgot that i read that about 2 years ago.
