Top up will make a difference, not that I have ever experienced what that is like.

Lucky you! You have obviously never lived in the Okla. City area (don't) We have about two "top down days" per year --- one in mid October and one in mid April. Other times it's too hot, too cold, too rainy, snowing, hailing, you name it. So all of my discussion of mpg is with top up. Don't know (after over 5 years of s2k ownership) what kind of gas mileage I'd get with the top down. Never had the chance to burn a tank full of gas that way.
