Default damn you GPW!!

This paint is friggen hard to match! I'm trying to get my Amuse spoiler painted, and I have to take the car in for a 3rd time to match the paint! (no, i'm not giving them my fuel door)

Just when we think there's a little blue in the mix, the car turns into a pearl white....arrrg.

Worth the trouble i guess, better than driving around with a mismatched lip.

Yes, this is what I've also heard. I've never owned a white car, but I heard that it's the hardest color to match. Hope they get it eventually.

I thought all that stuff about mixing colors and so on are computerized. All you need is the magic "exterior color code" and let the computer do all the paint mixing and voila, perfectly matched paint. Are you saying that is not the case with GPW? Or maybe your car has faded from being in the sun too much?

I feel your pain- I had a pearl white RSX Type-S that needed a new bumper (it got scratched before purchase and dealer gave me new one) and the poor paint shop guy painted the thing twice before he got it right. On that car he actually needed the car in the shop for comparison while he was painting the bumper, but it looked great when he finally got it matched.

Interesting. I had a front lip and a whole hardtop matched back in May with very little problem. I have to admit, it's not quite perfect, but the difference is so miniscule that I doubt 99% of the people out there would even notice. Only under just the right light does it look even remotely different. I sorta chalk that up to paint matching a car that's 3 years old. I don't think anyone could do a much better job.

Granted, I left them the car for three days to get the match correct. If they're only asking for your gas cover, why not just let them have it for the short time necessary to paint the lip?

You could've just given them your tow-hook cover.

yeah tow hook! thats a good idea.

Same thing happened to me. I was getting my front lip painting and I didn't trust the guys with any parts off my car. I would of done the same with any other shop. So I gave them the exact color code thats on the door. He warned me that there is a possibility that it will not match exactly because the sun may have faded the paint slightly.
Well I go the lip back and yep! he was right. It's a little darker than the body color, but in some light it blends in perfectly.
Once I get the hardtop then I'll have to color match both of them and I'll be sure to give them the tow hook cover.

I'll bet you that he blended the paint to get a "perfect match" look rather than just painting the bumper. Pearls are really hard to match.

the paint code on the door produced a paint mix that was too blue.

I considered giving him the tow hook cover, but he said its alot easier to get an idea of the overall color of car if he has the vehicle.

Needless to say, i'm driving a Jetta courtesy car right now!!

My car is 3 months old and lives in a garage when its not driven, so the paint isn't faded.
