Default Cutting the divider inside teh air box

OK, I DID do a search, but they came out super old and probably no one knew the long term benefits/disadvantages of cutting the middle divider of the airbox. So, I'll ask again

Does it help to remove the center divider in the stock airbox? It seems to impede air flow and I was wondering if I should cut it. At Spoon Sports they advised to cut out the dividers in my friend's RSX-S, and wasn't sure if it was the same for the s2000.

Also, any good K&N filters for the s2000? I want to increaase performance of my car but want it to look stock/not spend too much on it.

Honda spends unimaginable amounts of money designing their vehicles. That being said; they would have probably left the divider out if gains were to be had.

just out of curiousity though...is this the divider you are talking about??

I know HOnda spends a lot of money on research, but I also thought they detuned the car so it would get LEV status and use less gas to keep its Honda image.

Yea, that's the divider I'm talking about... what's it for? At first I thought it was there so you can put ice in the other end so the intake sucks in cold air jk, haha

S2000 is not detuned. Only image S2000 carries is their racing spirit and F1 heritage.

I did that ice trick when I was on the dyno, boosted my car 12.5 front wheel horse power

I'm sure you could cut it without affecting anything. People with CAI's have an open filter and that doesn't hurt anything

my guess is that the divider could potentially keep water from collecting in the area where the filter is located. that seems like a stretch though.

It's to divide the filter compartment from the water catch compartment. If you examine the airbox more carefully, especially how the lid (with it's "L" shaped tube) fits onto the airbox, you would realize that cutting out that divider will not help with giving more air to the filter. If you cut out the divider and removed the "L" shaped tube, you would open up the entire airbox to the filter and possibly make it a little easier for air to get in because it no longer has to travel through the tube. However, the cross sectional area of the hole that goes into the airbox remains the same. It is this area that determines how much air can get in. And I'm pretty confident that Honda calculated this cross sectional area with great consideration.
Getting back to the "L" tube .......................
See how it fits in relation to the inner lower edge of the intake horn? Any water that might manage to get that far, being heavier than air, will fall through the slit and into the first chamber. The air would continue through the tube and into the filter chamber. If you just cut out the divider, nothing changes. The air still goes through the tube an gets directedly onto the filter.
You really need to examine your airbox more carefully before you just go carving stuff up, thinking that it will make the airbox perform better.

Actually, there were compromises made to this car to insure it met certain goals from a safety and environmental impact standpoint. It's not as fine tuned as could be, but it's pretty damn good!

The original concept car had a 5 cylinder, for example.

But as xviper said, it's there to prevent water from getting too close to the filter
