yikes.. I guess the pictures made things a little bigger than what they are. I was thinking more along the lines of cutting the ribbon in half then using a clamp aka crimp connector to make contact through the cable then soldering on a PS2 or Cat5 port.
We used to do this a long time ago to fix dot matrix printers that would have bad ribbon cable connectors. Like you said... the chances of find anything that small is slim to none.
