Cross country drive in the S
I relocated from Oregon to Alabama. I decided to drive the S across the country and make a mini vacation out of it. My dad was nice enough to fly out to Oregon to ride along on the trip.
186 total hours
3437 miles driven
13 states visited (OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, SD, IA, MO, IL, AR, TN, MS, AL)
46 states plates spotted (missed Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, and Maine)
Wind farm in the Columbia River Gorge (picture taken from Oregon, wind generators in Washington)
Stella ready for the first day of the drive. 0 miles down and 650 to go before the end of day 1.
Crossing the Continental Divide.
Technically from here the rest of the drive is downhill
Montana mountains -
My bug collection after 1 day of driving.

We stopped off at Little Big Horn – here are a few pictures.
American flag, the moon, and a jet.
National Cemetery at Little Big Horn
This one makes me feel like the theme from “Little House on the Prairie” should be playing in the background.
Our next stop was at Devils Tower in Wyoming.

We decided to detour to Sturgis, SD and see what the area is like – this is the main street in town. In August it is packed full of bikes (not the peddle type)
Stella hanging out on Main St. in Sturgis, SD
As we get ready to go to our tour we notice that Stella’s sister is parked next to us. This S was from Colorado.

After lunch the bus stopped on the side of the road for us to snap pics of 6 Bison on the side of the road.

We then stopped off at Crazy Horse – after 70 years of work – this is as far as they have gotten.
We stopped off at world famous Wall Drug.
We visited Badlands National Park
As we headed south on I-29 for the first time we started to see flooding. This is a picture of Sioux City, IA.
The Y in Sioux City, IA.
We stopped off in St. Louis. The Mississippi River was very high.
Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (Gateway Arch) in St. Louis.

Looks like a fantastic trip with some great pics and something to remember for life. Ashame you could never do any of the trip top down though.
Remind me if I ever move far away to have my hardtop packed in with the rest of the moving stuff. Seriously, very nice!!
