I remember reading something about doing molybdenum coating and it'll work great. You can totally find these gears in junk yards and walk out with it for less than $50.

Although you'll save a few hundred on the gears, isn't the main cost in a gear swap the labor?

www.car-part.com for the kia sportage gears. Get them with no hassle or bidding for less than the auction. I would like the 4.44 or 4.56. I couldn't imagine the massive fuel economy drop with 4.77's on a daily driver.

There is no fuel economy drop with the 4.77s over the 4.56.

Mazda actually makes the 4.77s. Kia gets them from Mazda.

I thought it was the other way around? Not sure though, but I kind of remembering the Mazda guys buying Kia gears too
