My brother inlaw and I were finishing up his STI to Legacy swap, late one night (actually early one morning). He finally got it fired up, but had no seats in it so he was down on his knees using his hands on the clutch and gas pedal. We kept hearing this strange sound almost like the turbo was bad, turns out it was actually the sound of the car half in/half out of 1st. He stabbed the gas a bit with his hand, just as it finally caught first, and the car took off with him hanging out of the car, somehow he got it stopped before it hit the brick wall of the garage.

Working on cars with no sleep is bad

I did something similar although not near as bad, i just lightly scraped the garage wall with the rear bumper backing it in half asleep...if i was GPW you'd never know but since my cars black the white scuff is obvious...to me at least

That's sucks big time, but like you said, atleast you didn't lose a leg!

A similar thing happened to my brother a month ago----he had his C230 parked outside with the shifter in gear and the ebrake on. His friend went out to move the car so someone else could back out, but he didn't pay attention to the car being in gear, so as he pulled off the ebrake the car dove forward and slammed into the garage doing $3500 worth of damage to the car. The blessing was that nothing else was damaged, because just a few seconds before that my brother's wife was in front of the car, so she could have been killed if she hadn't of by chance walked to the side of the car before he let the ebrake out.
That's a good lesson and the reason I ALWAYS keep my manual in neutral when it's parked

I tried to brake once w/ my left foot. all my passengers swore they almost got whipped lash.

Rule: Dont try to break w/ your left foot or control clutch w/ your right foot unless you are trained from driving that way.

Lesson learned, post pics!

I sprained my ankle once and limped the car home without using my left foot at all. It was a solid 10 miles. About a half mile away from home I realized I could use my left heal to clutch without feeling much more pain.
