CR model apparently not boosting S2000 sales

Not surprised by those figures. It's an 8 years old car. The Evo had what...four generations in the span of 8 years? Granted the 7,8,and 9 are really the same, but they made each change interesting. Now they have a full re-design. I love the S2000 but it's time for Honda to put something entirely different together. It had a great run.

Pilot, Ridgeline, and Element sales are likely down as gas prices are way UP.
Most people cannot afford to pump 100/fillup anymore.
I am glad with the lower number of S's sold. Makes our cars all that more special.

agreed on the 'status symbol' class of our car--its not for hondas bottom line, but for civic owners to look up to. tonight a civic si revved next to me. maybe he wanted to race, but i was with my wife. anyways, if i owned a civic, the s2000 would give me a car to aspire to.
maybe when the nsx comes out the s2000 can die, but its hard for a company to drop their performance wing entirely and keep their 'sportiness' alive in their company image. guess we'll have to see.
and they probably dont make anything much by having the s2000 out, but they certainly havent had huge engineering/design overhead for the last few years, so i bet they dont lose a ton either. didnt GM lose money on SS camaros and Z06 vettes for a while?

Next thing will be the AP2 vs the AP2 CR.
I think the the two sides are:
1) Take an S and strip out the AC and radio. Strip out the convertible feature. Jack up the price. Great car
vs.
2) Take an S, strip out the top (which gave it the market segment), strip out the radio and AC to save some of weight, which you could do as an individual without paying Honda to leave off parts, glue on a rice wing (naw, Honda wasn't after the ricer dollar there), then charge the consumer more for less.
Sales are down for many reasons (economy the predominant factor).
However, I do think the CR is a factor in the drop.
- associates the S line, and Honda's demographic on this model as rice
- sends the death knell signal for future development on the S...there will be no more...when they are stripping and gluing an old model to form their 'new' model offering, the are abandoning the line. Honda no longer cares about preserving the integrity of the model, they are chasing the last dollar in liquidation phase
A 'new' model should have power improvements...Turbo, SC, something.
Compare a MR2 model and MR2 Turbo model (great upgrade).
Compare a S model and an S model with the top removed and a wing glued on it?
Really?

i service 4 honda dealerships in the chicago land area & none of them have been marked up...there glad to get rid of them as soon as they can..the dealerships do not like sitting on inventory. the only time you will get a mark up is when you have 3 or 4 people wanting the same car
