counter-sinking stock shift knobs

counter-sinking stock shift knobs
I know that its possible on the 00-01 knob by drilling out the bottom so it fits over the shift lever and then drilling/threading deeper into it, but can this same thing be done on the 02+ knob? Is it solid metal with just a leather wrap or is it multiple pieces put together? I was going to order the Rick's Voodoo knob, but I've decided I prefer the look/feel of the stock knobs over the round ball.

I'd go with the Voodoo from Rick's. This was the first manual car I've ever had, and although I used the stock knob for just over a year, when I got the Voodoo I was amazed. I was contemplating picking up the short shifter (like you I believe??) but I opted to pass due to the $200+ price. The Voodoo makes the shifts much shorter and makes the overall feel of the car much better IMHO.
off subject: just out of curiousity.... How much did you sell the Tanabe exhaust for? I'm defintely happy stock, but I'm just curious how much I would've gotten if I tried.

What makes the Voodoo knob so great besides the fact it sits lower? I have decided to stay away from the short-shifter kit for now due to all the issues people have been experiencing with them.
OT: I got $450 shipped, cost me $37 to ship UPS Ground, and I spent some time cleaning it up and polishing the mufflers/tips.

The problem doing this to the OEM knob (02+) is that it is made from several parts. If you don't drill it pefectly, it falls to pieces. It has been done to the 00-01 knobs, both AL and Ti. There is a thread around here (if the search will turn it up) on how to DIY.

The Spoon Ti. shift knob as well as the T1R B-max-somethingorother are both egg shaped like the stock knob, but they are countersunk. They're a bit pricey, but cheaper than a short shifter.

I read some time ago, where a fellow member used a hack saw to shorten his OEM shifter. He then drilled the OEM knob. He reported he was happy with the results. I'm not that brave. I opted for the voodoo and love it.
