2kRob, what makes you say that S2000 has 'tall' gearinng?! S2000 has one of the shortest gerations out of any car anywhere. I can't picture a gear-ratios much tighter than the S2000. Most sports car have ratios that allow the car to reach 70, 110, 160, 200, 260km/h in their respective gears. Look at the S2000 and you get 69, 105, 144, 186, 223, 266km/h in the respective gears .... how much closer can you have them? After all, each gear 'only' gains you roughly another 40km/h - that's some tight ratios.

Personally, I've never seen a gearbox that was this short ... any shorter and you don't have the car geared to the full potential.

ps. Some cars (like the WRX, new MR2 and MX5) have shorter 1st 2 gears but the rest are taller (a fair bit taller).

 

The S2000 is quick, but no where near as quick as a Z06 (or regular Vette for that matter) or the 911s. Heck, I bet a LS1 SS will beat the S2000 around the track if not every turn is a sharp one. Horsies become important in the straights.
