Consumer Reports 2003 Annual Auto Issue: Honda S2000 Vehicle Profile

Most product "reviews" in typical magazines go something like this: This one had this, that one had that. They sort of do xyz a little differently. Blah, blah, blah... [and the all-important conclusion] They both were really good for what they do. You will have to make your own decision. You can't go wrong with either one.
Leaving me to wonder, why did I just read this? Why can't they give me an opinion? It doesn't seem to matter what the product is. I used to see this when I was heavy into photography, for example. The only reasonable conclusion is the editors don't want to disgruntle their advertisers. This may be circumstantial evidence, but it seems to be universal with very few exceptions.
I appreciate that CR does express opinions. Like movie reviewers, I can relate their opinion to how it tends to match or not match my own, and I can at least extract a little bit of useful information from that.
