On a road trip going 72-75 mph for 200 miles I can get 27 mpg. Not in town, though.

Can someone with the magazine give us a summary comparison with the competition that is listed, e.g., Z3, Boxter, Miata, Corvette, et al.?

I don't often go BELOW 20mpg, even after autocrossing. Of course, I don't drive it like I stole it, either. At least, not on the street. Of course, traffic conditions (lots of stop and go) will affect mileage in a big way, too.

I do get around 27mpg on trips driving at 80 with two people and luggage...

I got 31 mpg when driving 75mph on a 150 mile trip (there and back) while I was on Cruise. So I guess 27 isn't that out of the question.

Overall, it's pretty accurate. The clock which seemed so important to so many did come with the 2001 model. Personally time stands still when I'm in there. The notchiness & grinding of some of the transmissions, which has appeared since day 1, apparently showed up more often with those reporting on the 2001 model. It would appear there was some improvement in the suspension between '00 and '01. As far as I know, it didn't happen. The minor suspension changes came in the '02 model. The paint issue could be the bumper rubbing problem (alignment) or chipping (which really hasn't improved that I'm aware of). The power equipment issue is no doubt the power side windows, which continue to fail at too high a rate. But, overall for a sports car - which we all know gets tested by it's owners much more than your average grocery getter - its a great rating and deserved.

I know that when Consumer's Report did their first review of the S2000, it was the highest rated sports car on their list.

I knew I made the right choice when I bought mine in May of '01.

They are assessing the reliability of a 6 month old car ..... duh.

Personally, I don't believe the majority of what the publication says -- but I will say I managed to get 32MPG from Denver to St Louis this past winter.
