I'm also debating whether to use my s2k as a daily driver and i had a question about winter wheels and tires. I have a MY04, Should i get winter tires that match with my 17's, i was also thinking that i should get the 00-03 rims and use those with winter tires but will taht have any bad results on my car since they are 16's and the tire width is smaller then my 17's? Would the 00-03 rims fit on my car? I believe tirerack has two options for me, which is 1) use my 17's with the tires they recommend or 2) go with 16's but tires are a littler bigger. Please let me here your inputs.

Thanks

John

I just picked up mine after my civic hatch (race prepped, no ac, rattles, stiff) just wasn't cutting it anymore. While it isn't the most comfrotable car, it's a great joy to hop in to every day. It's fast, fun, turns heads, has A/C, nice interior. If you can get over the space issue (I use my hatch for hauling bikes or big shit), it's a great daily driver.

I bought my S in Sept of '04. It is my daily driver. My only complaint (trifling as it is) is that there is no rain channel on the roof to keep from getting wet when opening the window in the rain. .

Also, since the lifespan of rear tires is approximately 15,000 miles, it comes a LOT sooner when your car is a daily driver rather than a weekend toy! However, it's a small price to pay for such a FUN car to drive!

I have mine as a daily driver. If your not chubby like me it's fine. My only gripe is that after 30+ min of driving my left theigh is killing me cuase of the bolster. That's my fault though..

An S2K as a daily driver?... ALthough the choice is yours; face it guys this car was not built for that.

A two seater, harsh riding, uncomfortable convertible as your only car is potentially asking for trouble.

I personally wouldn't suggest an S2K to anybody that didnt at least have some sort of a daily driver as well..... unless of course you are a scrawny single guy with no family, no friends, living in Miami or LA and a metabolism that works double overtime.

I think this is exactly the core of the question the original poster was asking: "What are the potential problems with the S2000 as a daily driver?" But you did not go into details of what these potential troubles are. I'd be curious to know as well (even though I own my S2000 daily driver for more than 5 years by now, but I do have other cars to drive when necessary).

Almost all the answers given so far fall into two categories: Issues that are generic to small convertables (two seats, convertable, , soft top, lack of space, and so on) but are not specific to the S2000. If you drive a small roadster (S2000, Miata, Z4, Boxster, SLK, ...), you'd have these problems, whether it is a S2000 or not. The other issues are generic to owning the S2000 (stolen seats, stiff suspension, loud, and so on) but are not specific to "daily driver". If you drive a S2000, you'll encounter these issues, whether it is a daily driver or not.

So bottom line is I have not seen any answer to the original poster's question: "What are the potential problems with the S2000 as a daily driver?" Specifically issues that only relate to the S2000 (not generic roadster issues) and only the S2000 as a daily driver (not generic S2000 issues). Are there any?

Do you go out when it snows at all, especially the bigger storms? I live in Kenosha and can't afford to miss work at all when it snows (busiest time of year for me as a public accountant).

If I do purchase an s2k I would not have the means to get a beater (at least this winter), but am a little nervous as to the lightweight and rwd in the snow

Hey, you talkin' to me?

I love my car as a daily driver. Driving to and from work is the highlight of my day. I can't imagine I'd say the same thing if I was driving a 4 door, fixed roof, smooth riding, quiet sedan.

To each their own

my S is my daily driver. the only thing that could be considered a "con" is that, like others have mentioned, it can get a little noisy on not-so-smooth roads, due to moistly tire noise. but there are ways around that (e.g., Quietcoat) if the noise really bothers you. on smoothly paved roads, it's actually surprisingly quiet IMO. road noise aside, the top doesn't provide much ambient noise insulation either, so if an 18-wheeler gets up next to you, it sounds like ... an 18 wheeler is right next to you (and they are LOUD). on the other hand, the beauty of this car is that it makes such wonderful sounds during WOT that sometimes i actually wish it were noisier!

on the grocery issue ... depends on how much you normally get when you go shopping. i find that the trunk is perfectly sized for my groceries. in my previous car (a 4-door), food items like milk would topple and roll about b/c of the unused space in the trunk, so i'd actually put my groceries in the back seat and on the floor behind me to get them to stay put. the size of the s2k's trunk actually helps to keep items in place (especially that tool well area), and i can easily fit 1-2 weeks of groceries in there. (disclaimer: i'm single so it's not like i'm buying groceries for a whole family)

good luck!
