concerning gear ratio and speed
Hello all, I'm new here and I'm new to S2k too. I just have a 2nd hand japanese version 1999.
There are some problems I encountered. Hopefully I can have some help here
I felt a bit strange for the car somehow... on the gear ratio, I wonder whether the former owner had changed to a higher ratio for the "rear gear" (the one connect with the main shaft .... sorry I'm not good at describing terms of cars).
also, there is always a low frequency "woowoo" sound behind my seat once I release the acceleration paddle...
Just wanna ask...
at 100km/h, gear 6, how high the rev. should be for original setting? mine is 3.5k, I wonder if it is too high for a original gear setting.
many thx

Check out this gear calculator:

If you car was stock, at 100 KM/hr in 6th, your rpm should be about 3300 rpm, so I'd say you have stock gears in your car.
Oops, having re-thought the fact that you have a Japanese model, it is possible that your car could have the 4.3 rear gears, as these were quite popular for Japanese tracks. 4.3 gears would get you closer to the 3500 rpm you stated.
You should get a precise "clocking" from GPS or from a police car to see exactly what the rpm is at a given speed. Then use the gear calculator.
Going to 4.3 from the stock 4.1 is only a 4.9% change.
