Does your mechanic still believe in the Tooth Fairy?

You could try some 3.636 gears.

Drive the speed limit everywhere. You'll save more gas than a cold are intake.

How would you modify the civic to have a soft top and rwd?

CAI might give 1-2 mpg difference--very minimal. I've had a CAI on my last two daily drivers and that's all I've gotten. I haven't even bothered with that mod for my S2000 as other than more engine noise, there is no benefit.

Lots of folks here, including me, get 30 mpg when in non-hoon mode (and in my car, I get that by not hooning and also by keeping the top up). I don't think you can do much better than that in a sports car.

Your right foot is what determines your mileage in this car.

I guarantee that in the real world you will get worse mileage, for one simple reason: the sound will result in you digging into the throttle more often to enjoy it.

That has been my experience since I got my Fujita installed. It's hard to avoid WOT when it sounds like that. No regrets though.
