(myth states) that if you have a bigger intake and a bigger exhaust it allows you to gain better gas mileage, dont quote me but this is something ive heard for years.

Here is a quote by Gernby kinda explaining why a hot air intake will get better mileage than a CAI. This guy knows his stuff after reading his posts over the years.
Cold intake air causes the engine to make more power per cc than warm air. This means that if you need 25 rwhp to cruise at a certain speed, cold air will require LESS throttle than warm air. For an engine to produce the same power at less throttle, it has to draw more vacuum, which wastes more power.
The only reason why I believe people think cars get better gas mileage in cold weather is because that's the way carbureted cars used to be. They would run rich in the summer (poor mileage), and lean in the winter (better mileage). However, modern engines run stoich all year long.
Ever wonder why diesels get such good gas mileage? It's because they don't have a throttle plate. The engine is free to pump as much air as it wants all the time, and the throttle pedal just changes the amount of fuel that is sprayed.
