If the guy in the Civic was 1" off your butt he was obviously trying to annoy you. No-one on their right mind stops that close to the vehicle in front. I'd have waited until the light was about to turn red again before taking off and leaving him stuck at it.

when i first started driving i did the MORE GASS less clutch technique, my dad taught me how to drive stick for 2 hours, then he told me to drive around for a while.
