It's definitely the delay valve. Either do what I'm doing and just try to ignore it, or remove the delay valve.

I'd have removed mine a long time ago, I'm just too lazy to get under there and do it.

I have no problem ignoring it as long as its functioning correctly. It never bothered me until yesterday when the Honda mechanic told me I had a "burned clutch."

I just took my delay valve out last weekend and I really wish I'd done it the day I got the car. I have no doubt that it caused much undue wear on the clutch disc in the two years I had it in. For those worried about diff failures I will say this, unless you are doing high RPM clutch dumps from standing stops, I do not think there is a problem. To each his own. I am very happy with the improved feel/action of the clutch and lack of significant slipping now. I don't do clutch dumps though...

YES THE 06's HAVE THE DELAY.....

I have personally taken one out of an 06.

The longer you wait to remove the delay after noticing it....the more damage to the clutch you are going to have.

Eventually after you remove the delay....the clutch will slip on it's own anyways due to the wear and tear you've been putting on it at high RPM's.

I'm still up in the air with if I want to remove it or not. For now I'm just happy to learn it is the source of what I was experiancing. That honda mechanic had me thinking I had a burnt clutch with only 7k miles on it.

Granted the new 06 he took out did drop the RPM's faster than mine, but I don't think it was that much faster. I don't think I should trust the judgement of of a mechanic who needed me to tell him about the delay valves and the ap2's inabilty to chirp 1st-2nd.

So if I passed the 5th gear test (and one I saw Xviper mention in a different thread of punching it in 3rd gear from about 4000 RPMs into vtec) my clutch is probably fine?

It probably wouldnt be something they would notice for warranty if you remove the delay valve and still have the 05-06 part anyway.. plus thats cheaper. I would plan to take it out or just not worry about it anymore.

Ya I'm just not going to worry about it anymore. As far as warranty goes, I don't want to encourage anyone way or another, but I had to teach the shop foremen at my Honda dealership that the valve even existed on AP2s.

Moreoever, I find it interesting that its not just honda anymore. BMW and Hyanduai and a few others seem to be using these now. I'd really be intereseted to know how much of the clutch life it is really taking away. I can't imagine it would be terrible under normal conditions or these manufacturers would be getting terriblee feedback on 25k mile clutch life.

I have to agree.

Furthermore, I highly doubt the average technician would notice the change made... even if they for some reason felt compelled to take the slave cylinder off the car and inspect it. (which they wouldn't).

I see the risk this poses to denied warranty coverage as somewhere south of 1%.
