clutch drops at 6-7k
I just got my02 about a month ago, but have yet to launch in fear of breaking something (from what I read here).. but I want to try a couple jsut in case the situation calls for it and I don't look like a fool.. how many times do you think it takes to break something (i.e. diff, clutch, etc)

It all depends. I remember reading about members with over 50k and who had launched their cars regularly without problems, but I have read about people who have blown diffs way before they had that many miles. The important thing is to do it right. Make sure you dump the clutch, DO NOT FEATHER IT. You want to get a little wheelspin, because if it hooks up without any, it is harder on the drivetrain. I would try around 6000 the first time, and see how it works. I used to practice in large level empty parking lots, until i got brand new SO2's in the back. Before I had new tires, I had launched the car probably a total of 10 times, and had done donuts about three times, and the car still drives fine, but you never know when something is going to break. Don't get mad if the car doesn't launch perfectly the first time, it takes some practice and it can be a tough car to get off the line consistently.

If you do it right ................... who knows? Hundreds? Thousands?
(I will not be the one to tell you how to do it right. It doesn't matter what I tell you. There is always that chance you won't understand and do it wrong anyway. Same goes for anyone else who tells you how to do it. You're on your own.)

I did it last weekend.....6300-ish (VTEC engagement point) then just slip the foot of the side, and modulate clutch to get grip. Too much wheel spin can stress the differential (especially if you start fish-tailing....which will happen if you hold it too long).
I took it to around 6200, then side stepped clutch, then gave a quick blip of the throttle to break tires loose, then backed off immediately to gain traction....worked like a charm....about 10' of tracks.

if your going to do it , do it hard. 6.5 at least, side step the clutch (just let her fly) you want the tires to spin a bit to cause the least amount of damage. the clutch will take a beating but that is why its there. feather the throttle till she hooks up and gun it. even at 6.5k the rpms drop fast, if it drops under VT you've lost.....
