Default Clue me in on break-in

600 miles without VTEC? I guess I'm lucky my recently crashed car ran so well, because nobody told me about that. Now that I'm about to get another, I'm wondering, just how serious is that admonition not to do it all in one trip? If I get the car before Thunderhill, I want to take it up there, which would eat up most of the 600 miles, but I doubt if I'll be able to chalk up very many miles here before I leave. (Be lucky to find one next week.)

It seems that everyone has a different opinion on break in. The safest bet is to follow Honda's break in recommendation. Who really knows what works though? Some have vtec'd from day 1 and others have taken a road trip to quickly put on 600 miles with no apparent problems.

I'm not sure what the detrimental effects are of not following the break in period. My guess is that the initial engine wear will not be even. The uneven clearances will cause excessive wear eventually.
