Get more power to the ground.
Get a more slick road.
More PSI in the tires.
Bald tires.
Stage 6 clutch.

We all know how to chirp the tires from stand still but how do you achieve it when cruising at 60 mph?

A few nights ago a Z4 roadster pulled up next to me on the highway while going 60 mph. I guess he was itching to show off his brand new Z4. He revved up for a full 2, maybe 3, seconds and chirped his tires and pulled away.

I gotta say, it was pretty impressive. How did he do it?
The Z4 has a much heavier flywheel and much higher rotational inertia (has zip to do with torque, though the Z4 has more of that too). Chirps after a quick shift or after reving the engine the way the guy in the Z4 did are just the result of dumping the flywheel energy to the rear tires. Trucks with massive flywheels do it easily, so all he proved was that his car was more truck-like than yours.

wet roads
ice
oil or leaves on the road

... and don't forget the ever reliable ...

Armorall on the tires tread area.

I don't think it's so strange. Most people associate tire squeels with power and speed, without ever having a clue what's actually going on.

Usually I manage to blow at least one run at every autocross, and once I've blown the run I generally over drive the car and slide around the rest of the course. Almost without fail, whenever I do that, there are spectators who come over and comment about how much faster I was going. Half the time, when I try to explain that sliding around like that is slower, they just look at me like I don't know what I'm talking about (so I tell them to go look at the time sheets).

It's not strange at all; Quite the contrary, it's common.

Impressive because its not every car that could do this. I was just wondering if my stock S2000 could do this and if it was just a matter of knowing how.

If I gotta modify the car, wait for a wet, icy, leafy road, get bald tires, and get stage 6 clutch then, you know what, forget it. I just thought it was worth asking.

You know chirping the tires is a sign that your not hooking up and in fact are slower than a car that does?
Sorry, but could you explain this to me? I was under the impression of the exact opposite. I thought when your tires chirped, that meant you were hooked up and not slipping (the clutch)....?

Hooking up means your tires are hooking the road. When you spin it is "churping". Like if someone Chirps second, or in this case third. Your not making 100 percent contact with the ground and moving forward with full force.
