ok i checked my oil today, the car wasn't driven for two days... when i wipped and dipped the stick it read two x's just above the "L" mark. now is that normal for a cold engine or should it be higher. BTW i dont know but in the manual it said to check the oil just a few minutes after the engine was running, is that why it read so low, cause the engine was cold?

I cannot image why the manual would say to check after the car is running. That would just insure you won

I don't think it matters if the engine is cold or warm when checking the oil. I may be wrong.

It doesn't seem to make a difference on my readings. I've done that test before where I check the oil about 10 minutes after parking the car and then I recheck the next morning. I got the same reading.

If I were you, I would add enough oil to get it to hit the full indicator. You never know when you'll burn through another 2 X's.

The oil in S2000 never should be more than 2/3!!

Where did you get that from? There is a reason there is a lower and an upper mark. Why would they want you to only fill up to something inbetween? Sorry, but that is wrong. Maybe what you are driving at is that you should never over-fill as that might hurt the engine. But 2/3 is not a hard rule.

ok guys im really worried now. i checked the level on cold hot and warm, all reading were the same a little above the "L" line. what should i do? im so afraid that this is a sign of that fourth cylinder or small block problem. i think im juss gonna take it to the dealer ship and have them take a look. what tsb's should i inquire about?

Does your car have low miles? Most VTEC engines consume oil early in their lives. So consume more than others. You will know if you have a cylinder #4 problem because the sound is terrible from what I gather.

Do a search on this topic and you will find lots of documentation of oil consumption.

OK as long as we're on the subject. Which side of the dipstick is correct. The passenger's side is almost 1/2 quart higher than the driver's side of the dipstick. I'm assuming the passenger (higher) side is the correct reading.
If so, I'm ok.
