Default Check your headlights...

My MY03 is down to two weeks left on the 3yr 36k warranty so it's in the shop for a maintenance session and a good once-over. One annoying thing I noticed was the front headlights are "blistering" just under the lens for the HIDs. Pretty good welts too, they started out at 1-2mm across about a year ago and today were approaching 3/4-1" in length.

I pointed this out to the service rep, stating how far it progressed over the last year and what it would look like in another year when it starts to peel and/or flake inside the headlight.

When I got the call to pick up the car today, Honda replaced both front headlights under warranty. Needless to say, I was like

Imagine what three year old headlights look like and what it looks like with new headlights.

If you car is still under warranty and you have this blistering, it would pay to bring your car in for a once-over.

No, I didn't. I do know someone else here has had the same issue and also had his headlights replaced. All you will see (and it's quite obvious once you see it) is a blister on the black area immediately below the lens for the HID. If you don't see it, you don't have a headlight with the problem.

Or: turn on the HIDs and look down on the headlight. If you see a crescent-shaped bright area just below the lens, this is where the blister develops.

Oh, I found the thread:

Just search the forums for "bubbling".

I don't know. It took 2 years for it to start happening on my car - by the end of the 3rd year they were noticeable, but only if you looked for them. Honda seems to be replacing headlights based on this problem, I don't know if the "new" ones won't do this, and the "new" ones they gave me were also AP1 headlights.

BTW: I saw the repair bill before I picked up the car, the dealer charges $1000 to replace and install the headlight housings.

I have this and just picked up my AP1 last Saturday. I am probably out of luck though since it's a MY00. Only has 11k miles though. I have to go in to get the clutchbuzz fixed.
