Check Engine - Gas Cap

^I had something like this before, if the filler is NOT the problem, try not running the S to below 4 bars. When mine drops below 4 bars, I get a CEL (valve of some sort....)

Ive got an 02 and this used to happen to me too when i first got the car (used). Just like someone already posted, hold onto the outside of the cap while you tighten...not the handle in the middle. Mine will start to tighten, then click, then screw in a few more times when holding from the outside. Assuming that the cel is just from the cap then this should take care of it no problem!

The light will usually go out after 3 or so complete cycles....the car has to completely cool then warm up to operating temperature again, this usually takes a few days.

I had this problem on my MY02, but this method for the tightening the fuel cap has worked for me with no problems since. There is a problem with either the cap or filler neck though (most likely filler neck from the TSB).

Yes, all of us 02 owners learned to do that. Eventually that will finally fail to work.

A new cap will work too, for a while.

The correct fix is to just do the fuel filler tube replacement. That's the only permanent fix.
