The Cheapskate's Headrest Windblocker
The Cheapskate's Headrest Windblocker Pattern From sjt
A within-the-headrest windblocker is not an original idea, but I wanted to make one myself from readily-available materials. It's not a very complicated thing, and all it has to do is block a little wind. There are many pieces of waste plastic you could use, or you could buy a set of these from Rick's for only $20.
All you have to do is print the pattern from my PDF, cut it out and tape it to a piece of plastic. Cut two pieces of plastic to size with scissors or some other appropriate tool. The plastic can be taken from any of a number of common pieces of packaging or office supplies-- whatever you happen to have. To install, gently pull off the back part of your headrest, insert the plastic windblocker, and snap the back of your headrest back on.
There are 4 clips that hold the back of the headrest on, and they are shown in the second page of the PDF file which is a rear view of the seat headrest. This 10" wide by 10.5" high piece of plastic is held in by four spring clips indicated in the PDF. Just pull the whole piece toward the back of the car with your fingertips to disengage it.
Only one problem--I cannot figure out where to put my pdf file with the details. Maybe the moderator can help.

I made mine out of thin aluminum (from hardware store) and just traced the pattern from the cover.
Then I faced the cabin side with yellow vinyl (scraps from graphics shop/ matching color to spa) and brushed the rear face with a 3M pad in a drill.
The yellow is muted but visible from the front and looks nice throught the "honeycomb" mesh in the headrest. I have always thought of painting or doing something diff with the rear, but looks good as is. Nice way to add a little color to the interior.

Sorry for the delay, but I think the pattern should be posted soon. PM me if you want it now.
I created the pattern with my copying machine and then tuned it up by cutting out trials from some overhead projector film. The pattern should save people some time and fooling around.
