Certified Plus
I bought my S2000 December 21st, 2006. I've always been happy with Holmes Honda's (Shreveport, LA) service. They have always made me feel welcomed in that place.
2 days ago, I was at Wal-Mart, which I rarely go there. I parked the car in the back of the parking lot. While walking out to my car I see something up against my car. I get closer and realize its a shopping cart. I walk around to the drivers side of the car and see the cart up against the side of my car. I pull the cart off and look closely. I see this...
BTW, that silver spot in the middle of the dent is just the reflection of a 2002 Honda Accord rim.
A small ding in the side of the car. I look closer, and see that the paint cracked from the impact. I immediately drive to Holmes Honda. 15 minutes later, I arrive. Go inside, talk to the Finance Manager. The original salesman who sold me the certified plus warranty.
Lets time travel. When I originally bought the car. I sit down with the finance manager. He goes over the whole certified plus warranty. Tells me it covers any damage to the side of the vehicle. Someone opens their door, hits mine, shopping carts, etc.
So, my conversation with the Finance Manager is really brief. I tell him what happened and he says, "Yea, you got certified plus, don't worry, its covered." I ask him is he sure. He tells me again, it is. I then ask him to walk out to the car so he can look at it. We walk out to the car. Look at it, and again, he says, "Don't worry, we will get you taken care of, its covered." He gives me the brochure on the warranty and tells me to call 1-800-711-4280. He says, either way, bring it in Wednesday (Today) and we will get it taken care of. They will give me a car to drive while its there. I call the number when I get home and file a claim. I take it to them this morning. They give me a fully loaded Honda Pilot to drive while its there. I walk another salesman who is a family friend out to the car and he tells me, "Its covered."
I'm at work and I get a call while I'm in a meeting with one of my employees. He calls to tell me that because of the location of the dent and the cracked paint. They are unable to fix the dent under the Certified Plus warranty. But saying it not that easily. He went through a whole spill to make it sound better. I follow saying, "I understand policies. I work in a retail store and manage a retail store. What I don't understand is promises that were made when I first bring it there. I made sure that each time I talked to someone about it, I asked them to walk out to the vehicle. Every employee told me, don't worry, its covered. I've been overall happy with Holmes Honda. Have always had great service and have sparked good friendships. But this, is real disappointing. Is it my fault the cart hit where it did? Is it yours? No... Is it your fault that you told me its covered and then now you don't? Yes... Is it my fault that your associates told me this time and time again? No its not, so then why do I have to pay for these damages?"
My biggest deal. If your not sure that warranty work is going to be done for free or for charge. Don't make promises and sugarcoat the whole situation. Example if your not sure if its covered. Don't say we will get you taken care of, free of charge. Say this, Ohhh, not sure thats covered. Lets take a look at it first and we will let you know. I would have never gotten into this whole process knowing that it wasn't covered. Now I'm a little concerned about the whole warranty together. I don't believe in it and I don't want it. I'm upset.
Holmes Honda took the car to a body shop today and told me that the body shop will be calling me tomorrow to give me an estimate. It will now roll over to my insurance. I have a $1000 deductable so I don't even want it fixed now honestly. That paint crack is just going to get worst. Its going to start to rust, peal more and more and piss me off more and more. I've lost my whole interest in the car. I see it as a money pit and can obviously do something better with my money.
Whats everyone think about this situation? I'm open to every answer. I really want to know what I should press forward and do. Thanks for reading this and I look forward to any input.

Well, with the $1000 deductible, I definitely wouldn't go the insurance route. I would try to find a good PDR guy and see if he can fix the ding and maybe try to colormatch that small area where the paint is cracked. I've seen some PDR guys do such work instead of having to repaint the whole panel. Since your paint is still new and unfaded, it should be easy to match.

Don't give up on that warranty, read the fine print. Whats their reasoning for not covering it exactly? You could also try calling american honda.

Lol I love it.. They are so happy to take your money and promise you the world.. When you want them to give you back some of that money in repairs its a difficult process that leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth.. I have a top that ripped itself due to a defect in the design and not wear and of course the certified honda warranty won't cover it, but the original factory warranty would have.. They find every loophole possible to screw you out of money.. It's amazing how greedy these guys are.
I'd get it estimated at a shop that you know does quality work and decide from there what you would like to do, whether it be go with insurance or pay out of pocket..
It sucks man, My dad says, whatever they tell you, get it in writing.

I suspect that you should have replaced the shopping cart against the car, gone in to Walmart and asked someone to come out. I'm pretty sure that they have insurance for that. Kind of late now.
"Not responsible for damages done from shopping carts, etc."
Sorry for the mishap Marshall Best of luck
