Here's my experience:

Hands free kits in a convertable don't work, they just make things worse. You'll be able to hear the other person, all they will hear is wind noise.

Wired headsets with the mic in the cord don't do much, the mic picks up to must wind noise.

Boom headsets (wired or wireless) work okay if you put the windows up, not great but usable in an emergency.

Best solution, if you have to take the call pull off the raod and talk. Don't talk and drive. Studies have proven that this is a very dangerous combination.

Actually real study have shown that there is no evidence that talking on the cell phone causes more accidents. On the other hands, the same study shows that eating, reading newspaper and applying makeup while driving were some of the top cause of accidents. go figure.

I used my bluetooth headset from logitech that has wind cancelation and I can usually talk just fine up to about 55 MPH or so. The windows up DEFINITELY helps.

Oddly enough, I have found it's almost easier to talk on the phone with the top down than it is with the top up. With the top up the motor and all other noises are so apparant being trapped in the cabin, I can't help but think that the person on the phone can hear the engine noise. I've tested it with the top down and most peoeple say its sounds pretty normal (the person on the other end), they say at worst it sounds like I'm outside, but not on the freeway at 60MPH.

I agree its easier just to not pickup, but sometimes for work it is neccesary.

ear piece makes it worse. The volume is much lower and you can't really hear very well.

installing the lexan inserts in the headrests and having the windscreen + windows up, makes for almost quiet top down environment. Add that stuff to a decent phone and you have a fair amount of quality control.

To the original poster. I use the earpiece attachment with my Verizon/LG phone. It is loud enough that I actually had to turn the volume down!!
