Is the Honda S2000 a poor man's Porsche Boxster?

Sure our car costs less, but "poor man" status? I don't think so. I understand the fact that someone who has the money and wants to buy a Porsche will, and that a Porsche is a Porsche, but if I had the money, I'd still buy the S2000 and use the extra money for mods.

Thanks.

The CBS guy was generous to Porsche - if you option the Boxster S with all the desirables, to better match the S2000, it costs WAY more than $51,000.

Some will say the S2000 is a lesser car just because it is a Honda and cheaper than the Boxster. Others will say that anyone who pays the extra for a Boxster is only getting a P badge for it. Both are equally ignorant statements IMO, especially if you haven't spent time in both cars. The S2000 does some things better, is quicker than a base Boxster in many ways, has a really nice gearbox etc. The Boxster has things the S2000 doesn't as well- a lot more cargo room for example, a very unique sound, and is possibly the car I'd rather be in if I took a lot of long weekend trips. Both seem like fun cars I wouldn't mind spending some quality time with

I dunno, I thought the article was fairly balanced for mainstream media, they did sort of hit on the strengths and weaknesses of it, and basically said anyone who can live with that is in for a good time

Boxster S handles better than the S2000 on skidpad?

Skidpads don't measure handling (handling is a subjective thing can't be objectively measured); they measure steady-state grip. Magazine skidpad results are always kind of iffy since grip is affected (by among other things) tires, tire pressures, alignment, etc. -- all things that magazines won't adjust but any serious owner will.

I think that I've seen skidpad number where the Boxster S and the S2000 tie, where the Boxster S wins by a hair and where the S2000 wins by a hair.

I dare say there are more than a few S2000 owners who bought the car after driving both and not so many who after driving the S2000, decided paying $20,000 more for the S was worth it.

I much rather think of my S2K as the "thinking man's" Boxster. I could afford to spend much more, but why?

I love the current Boxster S. If I had to choose between a S2000 and a loaded Boxster S with the options I want, it wouldn't be much of a competition:

- Navigation
- Real stereo
- Dry sump lubrication
- PSM
- Porsche brakes
- Useless but cool stuff like http://www2.us.porsche.com/isapi/english/u...=373&kat=Wheels
(if you think this is pathetic, reserve additional disdain for the "Where can I get JDM H logos?" crowd.)

But I'm going to stay happy with my S2000 because while I think the Boxster S is a step up, it's not a $20k+ step up.
