Cars and Driver drops S2k from top 10...

Simple... it didn't make the cut. The Boxster and the S are basically the same type of car so only one stayed and the Boxster was their favorite.
The Boxster has been in the Top 10 every year since 1997. Porsche has been CONSTANTLY evolving the boxster since it's introduction while the S2000 hasn't seen any REAL changes. The 350Z was in their because of hype and the Corvette Z06 deserves it as well.

Read this and it should answer your question.
The S2000 is just too much car for most people and too little in the same way. It is a "drivers car" plain and simple. If you don't love to just plain drive then you'll never understand it. I assume this is what happened with the C&D staff.

And I'm dropping C&D from the list of magazines I subscribe to. Is it just me, or has Car & Driver lost touch? It seems that in the last year or so, every editorial I read by Csaba Csere or Patrick Bedard is about something I couldn't care less about, or more importantly, they'll state an opinion I strongly disagree with. And don't even get me started on Brock Yates, his pseudo-erudite blatherings have been putting me to sleep for years.
I'm looking at the current issue right now: Feature article is a comparison of over-priced, super exotics that I'll never be able to drive, so I have no interest in reading about them. When I was 13, I enjoyed reading pieces like that. Then I grew up.
Good riddance to Car & Driver, they've lost me.

The 10 best is nothing more then a "review" on the various cars. Since it is a review, it is subjective. I personally do not pay attention to a review as the fundamental basis they draw their conclusion on is usually flawed to begin with. What one person wants is not what another person wants. Everyone has different tastes, needs, etc. Look no further then movie reviews. Ever see a 4 star movie that just sucked. What about those chick flicks? I personally will not watch them. Do some of them get good reviews, yes. What about comedies, they usually get slammed pretty hard, usually by the lack of a plot. If all you want to do is laugh and the movies makes you do that, it was successful in what they were aiming for.
They kept the Boxster, which included the S version, but they also complained the price of the S keeps going up. To me all the more reason why it should have been dropped. HP wise, it is not much higher then our car, it just has more torque and the price of the S2000 has stayed about the same. So Honda has stayed true to what it was trying to accomplish while Porsche has continually modified their objective.
