Being towed away is not a clear indicator of amount of damage. My 2002 ap1 was rear ended in 2003. The rear bumper was hanging by a thread, and the exhaust system was damaged. Only other damage was the underbody 'floor' of the trunk. No sheet metal was affected. Car was towed; total to repair was about $2500. None of that damage has been a problem these last nine years. Towing does not indicate severity of damage; careful inspection by a trained person does.

This.
Read the several page carfax FAQ. They have often reported damage incorrectly accidentally listing airbags deployed or other errors. Accident damage because the vin was listed on a police report but the car was of a witness and had no damage. Many people must dispute the report every day. Many cars have damage never reported.

GET IT CHECKED DEFINITELY IF YOU'RE SERIOUS ABOUT PURCHASING IT!
I was stupid to not have my car checked by an independent mechanic.. My car has a clean car fax with 2 previous owners and I was dumb enough to believe carfax is god.
I was really really wrong. I recently brought it to an independent mechanic and had everything checked and let's just say I never expected so much s**t with my car

Perhaps it was towed because a fender or body panel was damaged enough to cause it to rub or interfere with a tire, or a tire was flattened. Don't assume that Towing means it's junked up and ruined, so long as the repair was done correctly you should A- never be able to tell it was done and B- Should never experience a single problem at all with any repaired area. I speak from personal experience, I nearly bent an AP1 in half(not totaled) and it was professionally painstakingly repaired(The entire right side was replaced, including the rocker) and I could tell zero difference whatsoever before/after, and I work on cars for a living...so I'm the most anal about everything automotive related.
Remember, carfax is a REPORT - If the repair facility does not report the car being there to Carfax you'll never know about any repair done to it. I've seen Dealer serviced 200,000 mile vehicles with ZERO Carfax history.
