Put four more cylinders into it . It is very difficult to get a deep rumble from an inline four, its just a difference in engine architecture. Compare an I4, I6, V6, V8, H4, H6 and they will all have unique tones and sound characteristics. Look at the EJ20 (H4) in a WRX vs. the F20 (I4) in the S2K for example, both 2.0L fours, but the sounds are completely different.

A change in exhaust may help the sound but the uneven fireing of the V8 is very unique.

High lift/duration cams (VTEC killer cams) which provide almost no benefits IMO unless it is a built race car, and straight pipes/header. And still, it won't sound anything like that GTO.

A nice sounding setup that I've heard (in a vid, though), was that guy in Cali who had ITB's (and a heap of other mods.) Probably the sweetest sounding S2k that I've heard.

Raised compression and vtec killer cams is about the only way to come close(though I have yet to see and S2000 w/ vtec killers)....
Heres a vid of vtec killer cams on an itr motor theres a better one w/ vtec killers and 13.1 compression but i can't find it so this will have to do.

To make it rumble you need uneven firing to create the pulsation, you can't have that sound with only four cylinders though. But wouldn't you rather have it sound like one of these? I know I would.
