Why would their ethnicity have anything to do with it??
More people use regular and the medium grade than they do premium.....

I think the summer blend changeover is the culprit.

My point is, regular and medium grade gas would run out before premium if that is the reason.

And to those saying you are killing your engine . Your engine is not going to self destruct because you use regular gas. It may not get as good of performance, but it's not going to destroy itself.
statements like these are just plain wreckless.

I never said he was planning on racing, nor that he couldn't do what he needed to do to get home. My post was directed at the people who say there is absolutely no harm and nothing will break if you use low octane gas. Why? because no matter WHAT CAR you drive, DETONATION HAS THE POSSIBLITY OF CAUSING DAMAGE!
this is an incorrect assumption. yes the ECU will retard timing, but not until detonation occurs. while detonation can have varying degrees, it only takes one single episode of detonation to cause a possibility of damage.
FYI, if you go into the dealership with an engine problem and tell them you used regular gas, your warranty was just voided quicker than you can say "oh snap".
Bottom line is this. Only use lower octane fuel if you absolutely have to. With an engine that runs 11:1 compression, it needs a higher octane fuel. A bone stock S2000 on a normal day will actually suffer very slight detonation even with 94 octane fuel.
Want to sustain your engine life and avoid the possiblity of damage from detonation? Then don't use anything but premium. To make a statement that using regular could never cause any damage is wreckless and just plain incorrect.
If the ECU detects anything even slightly wrong, it will dial out timing when appropriate. The engine will begin to knock before it gets to catastrophic detonation, the knock sensor will pick it up, and the ECU will compensate until the knock stops.

I was on E last night. No lines, gas light on. I work like 15 minutes away. I get to the gas station, no 93. I get to another, and then another, no 93. Finally, the 4 stop they had 93 octane. I was worried i was going to run out of gas, lol. Worst case, we have some race fuel left over, i could use that lol. Im in Harford County MD if that helps anyone thats having the same issue.
