Default Can a hardtop installation kit be transferred from one S to another?

If I were to buy a hardtop from someone, could a dealer move the "installation kit" from their car to mine, or would I have to buy a whole new kit and have it installed?

Not sure munckee....

But if you don't mind I'll take this opportunity to ask: year 2000 S2000 uses Kit-A.....correct. Where can I buy this kit?

I believe hardtopguy has the best price on kits; you might try pm'ing him.

Yes, pretty easy to do. You may have to trade some parts with the car you are taking the top from, depending on the my of each car. Do it yourself. I can't image a dealer would touch it for les than $400. If you are really slow it might take you 2 hours to exchange the parts. If you can change your spark plugs, don't be afraid to tackle this project. Let me know if you have specific questions, I'm sure I can point you in the right direction.

I have never changed my spark plugs, so that doesn't really do me much good as a comparison. The reason I was asking about the dealer doing it is not because I'm afraid to do it myself. I may be trading in my '01 for an '00, but keeping my hard top. Don't ask why I'd make the trade, its a long story. I was just curious if I could have the dealer trade the parts as a part of the trade in.

I believe all HT hardware parts are useable from an '01 to an '00. You just have to make sure the dealer gets ALL of them. For example, they may forget to take the windshield strikers, which would be bad for you as the ones for the HT are heavy duty. Also the interior plastic trim pieces must be swapped. The only complication I can see is that going "retro" as you are planning to do is that the wiring harnesses on the '01 may not be complete for the '00, however, I'm not sure on this point. You need the one that goes from behind the driver's seat to the socket where the defrost plugs in and the one that is for the switch (and the switch & frame, too). Don't forget about the fuse relay.

Anyone know how much a new kit costs and whats involved in installing the kit on an '00 from scratch? It may be easier if I can get the right deal just to start over again.

Thanks! Looks like a pain in the butt, but not difficult.

When I got my HT the dealer kinda freaked when they found the 15 page book of instructions in the crate.....
They were predicting that the install would take 2 or 3 days. (guess they didn't notice that it was 15 pages in about 4 different languages) I just stuck to my guns and kept on telling them that when I ordered it and asked about downtime and cost, they said when I gets in we'll call you you come by and we'll set it on and show you how to work
the latches........(they've only sold 3 other s2000's) and one other HT(and they didn't install it , just had it drop shipped to the guy that bought it.....)
Any way after the dealership owner got involved, I wound up with a loaner car, "free" install and it only took 'em an hour and a half.
