Looks good, sounds like it was a bit of a pain in the ass though.

There are no issues with durability or fading with the G2 paint system.

Labor can take anywhere from 4-8 hours, depending on how much prep work you wanna do.

Definitely worth the time and effort.

I'm doing this very soon with the G2. Already have the G2 paint(red) and logo's(bright silver metallic) from decal girl.

Now, the only decision for me is to grind or not to grind....

More importantly:

I bailed to see how long this took you two fools and to see if the paint is going to last.

Do the grinding. It gives such a smooth/glossy finish.

I went a little overboard and spent about 2 hours prepping EACH caliper. Ground down the casting marks with a dremel tool, then used a hand file to smooth all the pot-marks in the metal. All the upward facing and outward facing surfaces were smoothed out.

You don't have to spend that much time grinding. The more you do in advance, the better the final outcome is gonna be.

AND

For the clearcoat question.........decalgirl claims that you DO NOT need to use clearcoat to protect the decals or keep the stuck on. Some, like myself, chose to do the clearcoat as an EXTRA step to the process. I feel it can only help. Just make sure to use high temp clearcoat, spray it into a cup (away from the car) and apply with a brush.

Pete -- looks great.

this is on my list of things to do... problem is, the list is always longer than time or money... but i'm sure you know nothing about that....

thanks for posting the gunmetal decals... they look pretty close to SilverStone, and i think they sold me on it... what's your thoughts on the match? i'm looking to do a black caliper w/ gunmetal (?) decal.

Luder is correct....I have a set of WHITE decals and RED decals - the same curved shaped ones that Pete has on his shiny new red calipers.

PM me if you are interested.

Pics of my gunmetal calipers to follow.

I really like the gunmetal. It's far enough away from any of the actual bodywork to be close enough on the match. It's pretty subtle in person and I like that about it.

Grinding will likely result in better results. I can't argue with that. However, for me it was about how much effort did I want to put in, and the answer is minimal.

It took about 20mins to jack up the car and get the wheels off. Mabey 10 mins to clean the calipers with the wire brush and brake cleaner. It took me about 20-30 mins to mask off the caliper for painting. It took about 1 hr mabey 1.5 hrs to do the actual painting. The decals were the biggest PITA they took about 30 mins to complete. Another 10 mins to put the wheels on and 10 more to put the car down and tighten the lugs.

(It also took about 1-2 hrs to play pool at S2000GTs, about 1/2 hr to check out his new Jeep a few times. It took a while to chat with Luder about his latest Mugen fix, it took a while to eat dinner. You get the idea, this was NOT a day of hard work. I got there about 12 and left about 9:30. We ate lunch and dinner and still got both cars done.
