Default Cali Owners w/ aftermarket exhaust + testpipe

I tried doing a search but the search function is awkward and doesn't give me exactly what I am asking. I'm just curious for Cali owners with aftermarket exhausts and testpipes and if you bypassed the 02 sensor issue, do you pass emissions? What are some tricks to pass emissions? any tips you did? Please post what exhaust you have etc. Thanks in advance.

You must have a catalyst in California to pass smog testing (and be road legal). W/o a cat the S2000 spits black smoke. I saw it this weekend. Looks a bit cool because it's different but it STINKS and pollutes like crazy.

Right now I have a single spugen exhaust with a test pipe. Smell wise it seems about normal nothing out of the ordinary and I see no black smoke. Do they do a visual check of the cat?

You will definately not pass smog without a CAT.

the smoke is usually white in my case and yes it stinks...you will NOT pass smog without a cat. ...be aware that an aftermarket intake/header without a carb. exempt sticker of some sort won't pass the visual inspection as well.

Surfing around about smog check and I came across this:

Some vehicles are exempt from the Smog Check program

Beginning January 1, 2005, vehicles 4 or less model-years old will be exempt from the Smog Check inspection requirement upon change of ownership and transfer of title transactions with DMV. In 2005, this exemption includes model-years 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

SMOGCHECK CA

I have an 02' which I just bought from out of state and I'm going to register it in CA soon. Do you think the above statement will get me out of a smog check if I show it to the DMV? Thanks.

I'd like to know this too. That's the only reason I left my S behind in NY...cause of SMOG.

Why wouldn't you guys just buy CARB certified exhausts or go to Spugen in Whittier and have them swap between stock and your setup for your smog check. They do it all the time. And recently they uninstalled and reinstalled a turbo kit for a smog check.

Me, I'd just not pollute but whatever floats your boat

That's pretty good idea too flitcroft but if my idea works, I don't need to smog if the exemption applys to me.

You still have to get your car smogged every second year when you register.
