Ok sorry if the title of the thread is not what you thought it is. Subject is insurace.

Anyways, lets start this off.

I have been looking into a new car for a while now, and the time is getting near.

I'd like either a C5 or an S2000, and yes I know they are both pretty differant cars, but I like them both equally for differant reasons.

Anyways, I am an 18 year old male with a clean title, so oviosly I am expecting a high price. My dads insurance company is Farmers.

So I go to get an online quote, all I can do is quote it on a brand new policy with just myself on it and full coverage only. So I did. My first intentions were to find out how much more the C5 would cost then the S2000. Well I look on the C5 first and they say 3,417 every 6 months (gasps). Then I look for the S2000. I was in for a surprise, 4,077 every 6 months. WTH is that about?

So my MAIN question is why is the S2000 more? Is this normal? Is there a reason it is so much on the S2000?

Also, when I get a quote on my dads policy with the multi car discount, good student discount, and so on, it will me much cheaper, and also I MIGHT get just liability since I will be paying for most of my insurace myself.

Again, the main question..."So my MAIN question is why is the S2000 more? Is this normal? Is there a reason it is so much on the S2000?" And also, is Farmers known to have high rates?

Incase any of you are wondering, I am inheriting money from a house that I own a portion of and we are selling it. And that is how I am getting the car.

Any help will be appreciated. THANK YOU!

By the way, C5 would more then likly be a year 2000 modle, and the s2k preferably new, but maybe an 02 modle. Both pretty equal in price. The C5 can be had for 29k if you shop around.

Because you are comparing a brand new car to a 3-4 year old car

And even new/new I think the s2000 is still more expensive
The corvettes (atleast the Z06) is relatively cheap to insure
Significantly cheaper than a z28, SS, or TransAm

I believe just because it is a convertible, and I would imagine involved in quite a few more accidents (per unit) than a vette, thus increasing prices.

Well, got a new quote, with my dad on the policy and three cars. The vette with him as a primary driver (even though id be driving it and it will be my car) is about 800 (or less) every 6 months. MUCH better.

I'm 18 and have an S2000 but I paid for it myself...insurance is a bitch. My advice: pay for some of it yourself, you will be much less likely to need it because you wont take (as many) stupid risks if part of your own income is invested in it. It works for me...even though I still had a little problem a while back from driving like an idiot. Be careful.

I am paying for almost all of it myself, and really, the car is being bought myself as well.

S2000's are more because of the history and statistics of the car. Many more S2000's are wrecked because there are many more younger people driving them. Corvettes are much cheaper to insure because most of the drivers are 40+.

We all pay for what others do to their cars.

The S2000 is a horrible history with insurance companies. They hate the S2000. The Corvette is not in as many accidents.

RhodyRandy is absolutely right. Insurance companies are in the business of making money and if one particular model car has a higher probability of being wrecked or stolen, then they adjust the premiums accordingly. It's all about statistics. That is why young drivers regardless of their record have to pay more for insurance. And statistics show that good students are less likely to wreck a car, too. Look at it this way: You must pay a higher premium because others that are demographically similar to you were bad drivers.

This is also the reason I tell people (of any age) DON'T BUY AN S2000 if you're looking to replace a car you've just wrecked. I don't want to pay for someone else's carelessness.

JsnS2K: From the way you write and what you said, it appears that you're an intelligent, rational and responsible guy - the type of person most of us want to see driving around in an S2000 (from an insurance standpoint). I hope you find a way to make it affordable enough to to get an S.

here's hoping that YOU don't have a salvage title after you (male, 18 years old) get done with EITHER of these hi-po rear drive sports cars.
