price: $20,500
year: 2001
mileage: 20600
I think the car has been on the market now for a few weeks and I believe he's had some potential buyers. He says dealer offered him $19,000 and I believe he's also on a deadline to sell(financial problems) and that the dealer was his last resort. He also mentioned that buying the s2k was a mistake in the first place financially.
According to Carfax, the DMV reports him as having owned the car for only 4.5 months and he stated that he is still making payments on the car.
For some reason, the guy didn't come off as being a liar. If this is true, then I think he didn't do research on the car and perhaps this was an impulse buy for him.
But if he's a liar, then who knows what else he might be hiding. I wish s2000's came standard with lie detectors
Thanks again.

There's a concept in law that says when a witness is not truthful about one aspect of their testimony that the rest of their testimony is not to be trusted. So, beyond the question of the odometer reading the question you should be asking yourself is what else might they not have been truthful about? Personally, I wouldn't make the transaction. There are probably 10000 S2000's in California. It's not like you won't have an opportunity to buy one of the other 9999 of them.

Expecially since this is a Cali car. There is no way this guy would park it in the dead of summer and not drive it.
Reading reported on 03/26/2001: 10 miles
Reading reported on 01/30/2003: 26,790 miles
Inconsistent reading on 01/30/2003: 17,915 miles
Reading reported on 06/05/2003: 18,333 miles
Reading reported on 07/18/2003: 18,334 miles
Reading reported on 10/06/2003: 18,388 miles
Expecially with those 2 being on the same day and even if it was a typo (16,790), With those readings, he drove about an average of 1700 miles a month until Jan 2k3. Then he drove about 60 miles a month after (expecially in prime S2K weather?!?
If you are still looking at this car, have the ECU checked for mileage. Ask him if the dash was replaced. If he went JDM, then it could be possible that the car has more miles and the ODO was written by the new dash. The ECU usually stores this unless teh speedo cable was disconnected.
Either way....buyer beware!!!

Im sorry but
I had 2 experinces like yours but thanx to a very good friend of mine I never made the mistake.
