Cool buying a used s2000 (cracked engine mount)

hey guys!

i'm new here so i apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

anyway, i'm very interested in buying this used s2000, but i want your opinion if this is a good buy:

description:

-silver, 2002
-48,000 miles
-oem front lip
-brand new top (car was broken into before)
-brand new tires

-clean carfax
-minor scratches
-never been repainted

problems:

1) I drove it and it was pretty smooth, and runs strong but when the top is up and going over a bump or turn, it makes these creeking noises.

2) It has a cracked engine mount (passenger side). The current owner is going to replace/repair, but is this something to be to be concerned about???

asking $16,700 US

please let me know what you guys think.. thanks guys!

I'm no mechanic so I don't know about the engine mount, but I'd say that the year/mileage for that price is a really good deal, especially with a brand new top and tires.

thanks for the response bloodzombie.. i think so too.. it's a pretty good deal

however, the engine mount is my main concern.. he said it will be repaired, but i'm wondering if perhaps a cracked engine mount means the car was driven hard or abused...anyone?

maybe it has been abused, make a compression test or leakdown test on the motor.

not.... really...? i got my 02 with 28k miles on it for $17k. also, how did he crack an engine mount? if the car has been broken into or stolen, you don't know what kind of damage the engine may have sustained from being driven wrecklessly. i would look around a little bit more and try to find a better deal..

thanks for your responses guys... i just called a honda dealership and asked the service guy if it was a major issue... he said no.

actually, the car was broken into, but i'm not sure if it was taken for a joy ride... the current owner doesn't know cause it happened before he owned it.

You are not taking in to account that he is in Canada where the pricing for this car is far higher than it is here. I think it is a good price.

I bought mine two years ago with 44K miles for that same price - 16,700. So yes, I'd say it's right where it should be for private party.

but if the car is in the US, pretty much any price is good. If he's only shopping in the US, it doesn't really matter that he's in Canuckland in terms of comparing prices between countries.

ooo... didn't spot that. why not buy one here in the states and drive it back up? im sure the fee's for transferring are not as much as the price difference from the US and Canada
