Well as many others have already indicated asking how the S is for drag racing or stop light wars is a bad question because the S2000 was not designed for that purpose. If straight line driving is your thing I suspect you will not like the S2000 and should have bought something else.
Now, if your question was how fast is it on the track - I would have to answer that by saying - We don't know, because the real question is - How fast are you?
The Driver is what is fast on the track, way more than the car. And as a case in point, if it was all about the car, then there is no way I should be able to do lap times better than M3s in my '90 CRX-Si, and yet that has happened often.

Or, another way to think about it is we just find no challenge in driving in a straight line, and as we have a greater depth of experience to draw upon we have decided that high speed driving on a track is much more of a challenge to our skill sets....

dkak, I really don't know what "hype" you have been reading. I'm afraid already from your questions that you will not enjoy or appreciate the S2000, and my advice would be to not waste your money. Think of how many mods you could do to a nice Camaro with the thousands of dollars you would lose in the S2000 transaction! You could make a real sleeper of a Taurus or something, too. Put a jet engine in it or something (just remember to include an "off" switch, lest you find yourself winning a Darwin award like that other guy!)
You HAVE done yourself a favor by finding the best resource ANYWHERE when it comes to S2000 owner experience and S2000 owner opinion. These are people who have much more S2000 seat time and under-the-hood time than any magazine reviewer. But now that you have found us, will you disregard our advice?
I recommend being honest with yourself--what is it that you want out of a car? We will be honest with you in telling you what we enjoy and don't enjoy about the car, what it does well and what it does not do well.
It might not be too late to stop your transaction.
