Buying from a non-honda dealer, concerns?
I'm looking at a used S2k for sale at a non-Honda dealership but it's still a real dealership (German hint hint) and was wondering if there is anything specific I should look out/check for. Would it be best to take the car to an indy shop or would the dealership have already looked over it?
Also, its at 48k miles and it kind of concerns me since my current car has 60k and I wouldn't want to buy it in its current shape. But 48k for honda's doesn't seem to be anything at all.
If anyone could tip me on anything specific to look out for that would be great. I threw them a lowball OTD offer and they still called me... dealerships must not be doing so hot in the current economy.

I got mine from a Porsche dealer in another state.
Mine had less than 20k miles though.
Even so, I've had very little problem with it.
Does the car have service records? If so, it really doesnt matter what kind of dealership is selling it. If it's a problem car or not, any dealer will try and sell it to you if you show interest.

If a German dealership is selling it, its probably in good cosmetic shape - they typically only sell the better cars. You can definitely take it to an independent shop for inspection, but used cars need to be looked at on a case by case basis.

I personally feel it doesn't matter what dealership it comes from. Of course, it would be more comfortable if it was at a Honda dealership. Regardless, I would still have everything checked out first by my personal mechanic(older brother) to make sure nothing is wrong with it.

IMO. if the car is at a respectable dealership, you probably have little to worry about. If your serious about this car, do your deal with some trype of warranty (3mo, 6mo, etc.). Even if you can only negotiate a week or two, this would give you plenty of time to discover anything major that may be wrong with the car.
Realistically, this car was probably a trade-in for a BMW or Merc and I doubt that the dealer would be interested in selling it off the lot if there were any type of forseeable problems. Generally ,any car with question marks are wholesaled out to independent used car dealers.

I got mine used from a VW/Audi dealership with 18.5k miles on it (and in 3 months proceeded to put 8000 miles on it because of work ) and have not had a single problem thus far.I would recommend having an independent shop do a full pre-purchase inspection of the vehicle, as well as getting a carfax and taking the car for an extensive test drive (the dealership I bought mine from let me take it home for the night before I bought it which was very cool).

I got mine with 14,700 from a Jeep dealer. I have 57,000 on it now with no problems.
It was in WAY better shape than the "certified" piece of crap I saw at the local Honda dealer.
