Buying my first S2000!
#22
Here we go again with the "omg you can get a <insert car> for <insert ridiculous price>". Seriously guys, for a EXCELLENT condition private-seller you'll maybe get $1k less than KBB value. Anything lower than that and you're most likely dealing with someone who is in dire need to get rid of the car (low percentage there) or there are underlying issues.
Stick near the KBB value, get it checked out by a reputable mechanic, and you'll be good to go. Pay what you think the car is worth and don't worry if other people complain that you got "robbed." It's your money, if you believe the car is worth what it is, then so be it.
I got my 2006 with most of the factory upgrades in MINT condition out of state for $21,500 a couple months ago and I couldn't be any happier about the purchase. Other cars in my local area (same year, color, and mileage) but a couple thousand less were heavily ragged on and beat up. You get what you pay for.

Hey ya'll! So that 03 for $16,900 was sold last night!!! I thought it was the one but now I have to keep searching! A lot of ya'll are saying it's too much but it's so hard here in beautiful LA to find one with low miles and one owner with a reasonable price!!! Now, back to late nights on the internet searching for one!!! I'll keep ya'll posted! Oh, I now have test drove both AP1-2 and I like them both! I would take either one but i'm leaning more on the AP1!

All I can say is take your time and do your research. Carfax, expert advice, and use S2KI, this forum is filled with so much information about this car, its amazing. Everything I know about my S is from this site. Good luck buddy.
Hopefully you get it in time by HOMECOMING 2!!!

the market all depends where you live. I picked up my AP1 in june. 02 sebring silver with 22k miles on it. bone stock for 14,200. It seems like the s2000 is up there in value still compared to other cars of the same year in the same price range new.

I need a faster car! I have a 08 Honda civic right now, and was thinking of a Honda Civic Si or S2K! I'm def. leaning more on the S2K, it's a car that i've always wanted. I didn't have the money before but now I can afford one! I just have a question for you guys! Should get a Ap1 or and Ap2??? That's my biggest question! I asked a few friends but they don't have an S2K so I know you guys would know better! Pls. let me know asap I am aggressively in the market right now!
Test drive. Test drive. Test drive.
You'll definitely know whether you want the Civic Si or the S afterwards. You'll also know whether you want an AP1 or AP2.
You might as well ask us what dish you prefer at a restaurant or what your favorite color is. You need to figure out the answer for yourself.

I love how so many on this site depreciate our cars as much as possible. If one person posts a very low price (true or not) it becomes the new standard price for every S out there. A car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. KBB should be a good starting point: 2003 with 38k miles $18,000.

With KBB, I go by a number between trade-in and private party values, but closer to the trade-in value. In this range, cars can sell pretty quickly, otherwise they might sit on Autotrader or Craigslist for a while.
