Buying...before or after winter?
I have a 06 STI and have always loved the s2k. So I'm playing with the idea of getting one as a 2nd car for the non-winter months up here in Boston. Almost bought one when i picked up the STI, but i ski/snowboard too much to justify only have the s2k.
A lot of the dealers around here have multiple new 06's, 07's, and 08's on the lot. What kind of prices can i expect right now on these cars versus springtime? I have no preference on the model year, except that I would like a 06 or newer.
I'm guessing I can haggle a pretty good deal on a NEW 06 right now and just keep it covered till springtime rolls around.

Speaking for myself, the prices will only be more in spring. In fact, I am just listing mine for sale due to unavoidable reasons and I am giving it till spring to sell at or close to my asking price - I do expect to put on another 500 miles between now and spring . I am just feeling increasingly confident that I will be able to sell by spring at my current asking price, even with more miles. I don't know about Massachusets, but the dealers in NJ have been known to be really stubborn on pricing down drop tops in Summer considering we only enjoy a few months of decent summer and people really scramble to get their drop tops then... On an entirely different note, cold weather is not even a real limitation for enjoying this car, unless of course it snows. Go get yours now!
Cheers!!

What kind of price would I expect to get on a new 06? Seems a bit weird that they are even still on the lot. They might be beaten to hell since they are most likely the car that everyone is allowed to test drive. At this point, it's a used car to me! (price wise)
I'd like to aim for ~25k, but may be a bit low.

you can get a slammin' deal now, depending on where you live.
when i was shopping at the end of August this year, i found two "new" MY06s in showrooms around the DC area, but both dealers were basically unwilling to budge on the "steal" price that they were offering, which was like 28,600+TTL, which = ripoff. it had over 200 miles on it as well. i managed to pay over $1,100 less than that for a new '07 with 40 miles, so i'm guessing you can do pretty well too.

I looked at the S2000 prices for over a year before I bought one, mostly because I didn't have the cash in the bank when I decided to buy one, and it was a motivator. From what I remember, asking prices do go down heading into November, and they do go up towards (way before) spring. Shop for what you want, just don't expect prices to keep going down after the 1st of February, because they won't.
I bought mine in Chicago on a really crappy Monday right before Thanksgiving.
