Default button fell out of soft top latch?

I was taking my top off (lol) and my driver's side latch button just fell out. There are 2 screws that go into the button that keep it into place that were missing. I dunno where they went, I think the previous owner lost them. Anyways, the first time this happened i somehow got the button back into place and it kept working. Now, it seems like I can't get it in right, because I can't get the button to unlatch it. It's stuck in the "closed" position so I can't exactly look at it.

Is there any way to pop it open or so I have to just take it off and mess with it? I could buy a new one but i've got better things to be buying, I have the money to replace it but i'd LOVE to figure out some sort of free fix. THANKS!

Just keep fiddling with it - eventually you'll figure out how to slip the button back in properly. It helps to look at the other side to see which way the button is oriented.

This happens to me all the time. Lucky for me I keep finding the little screws on the floor or seat whenever I clean the interior. There's a little washer that goes with the screw, without it the button just falls off again. Use lock-tite when you put the screws back in.
