Default Burnt clutch?

So after 3 months of ownership I decided to find a safe place to try a 0-60 run. I rev'd the engine to 6K and dropped the clutch. First thing I noticed was that it didn't launch straight ahead but kinda went to the side a bit while it was accelerating forward. Afterward the smell of burnt clutch lingered for over an hour. Is this normal? The car runs fine but I figured I'd ask.

It's normal for the car to step out to the side. But the smell for over an hour? That is way too long even for a hot clutch.

Feather the clutch during a launch? I would think that's a good way to burn out the clutch. I'd suspect he didn't get off the clutch fast enough and slipped the clutch BAD.

IF you try to launch the car, your best bet is to rev to 6k (you may need more/less depending on conditions) and sidestep the clutch. You want to get wheel spin as that will release a lot of the shock to the drivetrain. If you launch at too low RPM, the tires won't break traction and all that stress will go to the diff and axles. Not good...

Your clutch will probably be fine. You glazed the surface of the disk. This could cause some clutch slip in extreme conditions but it will wear off over time.

Glazed the clutch on my Celica bad once. Was on a Huge grade in traffic, Car behind me was on my ass so i had to keep the wheels with pressure and not brake it or i would've hit him(Stupid people).

For the next couple of hours, was slipping constantly but it wore off.

I'm confused... If it stepped sideways then it must have broke traction, but if the clutch didn't grab it should have slid. Did you park there and wait for the smell to go away? It may linger for quite a while if your not moving.
